Stop Using Excuses to Avoid Flossing

Flossing Cooley Smiles WA 98028-4839One of the most important things you can do for your teeth and mouth is flossing. So it's time to stop using excuses to avoid flossing. It doesn't take a lot of time to do and you will be doing yourself a favor if you add this habit to your routine.

Here are some of the most common excuses people use to avoid flossing.

It Hurts to Floss

If there is pain while flossing, then chances are there is something else going on with your gums. When the gums bleed during brushing or flossing, you could have gum disease. Your gums can also bleed because of poor dental habits, but within a week of doing it regularly, it should all be fine.

No Time
The most common excuse to avoid flossing is time. Flossing is one of the most important things you can do for a healthy mouth and it only takes one or two minutes.

Not Necessary
You may think there is no food stuck between your teeth, but that is rarely the case. Even if you use the best electric brush, you can still have areas in the gum line that are hard to reach. These particles can only be removed by flossing.

A Waterpik flosser is a good alternative if you are not motivated to use the regular floss. This type of flossing is actually better and gets rid of more of the particles stuck between your teeth.

It is time to stop using excuses to avoid flossing, one of the best things you can do for good overall oral health. If you have questions about how to floss properly, for how long, and what kind of floss you should use, please call our office or ask our hygienist the next time you have your check-up.
