When Do I Need A Tooth Extraction?

Posted on 5/9/2022 by Brandon Cooley
When Do I Need A Tooth Extraction? Several reasons may lead to tooth extraction, including tooth decay, crowding, gum disease, and trauma. When the need to extract teeth can be avoided, such as tooth decay, it is essential to take all necessary measures to prevent losing your teeth. You can prevent this by making regular visits to our practice, where we will detect early signs of tooth decay and stop it.

Tooth decay

Plaque and tartar buildup leads to the formation of bacteria that produce acid, which erodes the enamel of your teeth, making them weak and eventually causing decay. If this decay is left untreated, it leads to an infection characterized by extreme pain, swelling, and redness. At this point, our dentists recommend the extraction of the tooth to prevent further damage.

Gum disease

Gum disease, also known as gingivitis, refers to the swelling of gums in the area at the base of the teeth. Gingivitis results from the buildup of tartar in the gum region located at the bottom of the teeth. The tartar irritates the gums, causing redness, swelling, and bleeding. When the gum holding the tooth becomes too weak, our specialists recommend the extraction of the tooth in place for a crown or dental bridge. This extraction will prevent further damage to neighboring teeth.

Crowding

Crowding of teeth occurs when your mouth lacks sufficient space for permanent teeth to come in. The insufficient space causes some of your teeth to grow at the back of your mouth. Crowding causes your teeth to become crooked, interfering with the appearance of your smile. Extraction of the misplaced teeth will safeguard your teeth and allow you to keep your attractive smile.

Drop by our offices today if you need any tooth extraction services or advice. Our doors are always open, and we will be glad to serve you.
