Alan Lopez, DDSDr. Alan Lopez was born in Palo Alto, CA but grew up in the rural agricultural town of Cowiche, in central Washington State. Cowiche is an idyllic place to live filled with rolling hills, lush fields, and many fruit orchards. The town has an amazing sense of community spirit and great pride in its high school sports programs. Dr. Alan spent most of his time playing soccer in and outside of school. On the weekend, Dr. Alan was helping his father with landscaping and construction work, and this is where he inherited his father’s passion for craftsmanship. Following in his older sister’s footsteps, Dr. Alan attended and graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in Biology, Medical Anthropology and Global Health and a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, Dr. Alan left the PNW and moved to the Bay Area where he completed The University of California San Francisco’s Interprofessional Health Post-Baccalaureate program (IPHPB). IPHPB was a stimulating learning environment that allowed Dr. Alan to engage in real-world clinical research with a diverse group of future health care professionals. Dr. Alan’s research project examined the impact of ampicillin and gentamicin antibiotic administration time in the neonatal intensive care unit. It turns out Dr. Alan could not stay away from Washington too long because after completing the IPHPB he returned to Seattle to attend the University of Washington School of Dentistry and was part of their Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE) program. The RIDE curriculum includes a significant amount of training in rural and underserved areas to expand students’ familiarity and comfort in providing dental care for rural and underserved populations. After graduating from UWSOD, Dr. Alan completing his UW General Practice Residency, which intensively trains general dentists to understand and competently manage very difficult medically complex patients in a hospital setting. After completing his residency, Dr. Alan has been working at the Community Health Center of Snohomish County for the last two years while completing his service as a National Health Service Corps Scholar. Dr. Alan is passionate about using the latest evidence-based research to provide the highest quality of care and a truly transformative dental experience. Described by colleagues as humble and calm, Dr. Alan is known for his spirit of compassion, always honoring his patient’s needs and putting their wishes first. Dr. Alan is excited about practicing whole-body dentistry because he believes the right kind of care has the power to enhance both the physical and emotional aspects of health and well-being. Outside of work, Dr. Alan also acts as the current President of the Washington State Hispanic Dental Association and routinely volunteers with the University of Washington School of Dentistry as an Affiliate Faculty. Outside of dentistry, you’ll find Dr. Alan at the gym, at a local park with his wife and corgi named Watson or trying out a new Seattle restaurant. |
